On August 8, the Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) that would maintain FY 2026 federal funding levels through December 11. The measure also includes language delaying implementation of the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) proposed changes to federal grant management for the duration of the CR.

The House previously passed its own CR extending funding through December 4, but its version does not include the OMB provision.

When Congress returns from its August recess, the House is expected to consider the Senate bill. Any differences between the two chambers will need to be resolved before current funding expires on September 30 to prevent a government shutdown.

NANS will continue to monitor the FY 2027 appropriations process and share updates on developments affecting federal funding, research, and grant programs.
