About

Dr. Wayne Feng is the Disque D. Deane Duke Distinguished Professor of Neurology and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, where he also serves as Chief of the Division of Stroke & Vascular Neurology and Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center. A board-certified vascular neurologist and physician–scientist, Dr. Feng focuses his research on developing imaging biomarkers to predict post-stroke motor outcomes and spasticity, and advancing noninvasive neuromodulation technologies, including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), vagus nerve stimulation, low-intensity focused ultrasound stimulation (LIFUS), and transcranial magnetic stimulation, to enhance motor, visual, and pain recovery after stroke and reduce long-term disability.
I currently serve as Contact PI or MPI on four active NIH awards and one American Heart Association (AHA) Collaborative Science Award: R01 (RESTORATION; rTMS for post-stroke depression and gait), UG3/UH3 (TESSERACT2; tDCS for neuroprotection in acute ischemic stroke), U24 (ENVISION; a regional stroke-trials consortium), UG3UH3( PAINELSS: treating central Post-stroke pAin wIth traNscranial Low intEnsity focuSed ultraSound (PAINLESS)and AHA CSA (developing a “2-in-1” ultrasound imaging-plus-stimulation system for the human motor cortex). TRANSPORT2, the first multicenter, Phase II brain-stimulation stroke-recovery trial within NIH StrokeNet, achieved 98% primary-endpoint retention despite the challenges of COVID-19, and its main results were published in The Lancet Neurology.
